The VTB United League Finals begin at the USH CSKA on June 5, World Environment Day.
The VTB United League continues to actively expand its environmental initiatives, led by the BASKETBOTTLE plastic recycling initiative, sponsored by SIBUR.
Each game of the Finals–June 5 and 7 in Moscow–will feature a STREET BASKETBOTTLE recycling festival where fans can bring items from home to recycle.
Environmental issues and our personal impact on the environment has become a major concern in today’s world. People are used to sorting trash at home, separating plastic bottles and other waste, but don’t always know what to do with the items in the future.
The STREET BASKETBOTTLE festival will feature recycling by EcoLine at the USH CSKA and Moscow Region Basketball Center. The collected items will then be sorted and processed at recycling plants. Fans can bring plastic bottles, aluminum cans, bottle caps, paper, cardboard, batteries and also receive information about recycling in their neighborhood, as well as win prizes from the organizers.
Festival partners include:
Dobrye kryshechki, organized by the Volunteers with Orphans charity. Participants in this initiative collect bottle caps for recycling. The money from the bottle caps goes toward buying wheelchairs for special-needs children in foster homes. More than 120 tons of bottle caps have been collected in two and a half years, worth nearly 3.1 million rubles, allowing organizers to buy 17 wheelchairs and other medical equipment.
BATAREIKA was created by professionals with experience collecting and re-using dangerous waste. The project’s overarching goal is to simplify the disposal and re-use of dangerous waste. BATAREIKA independently provides battery recycling in convenient public spaces, as well as transporting and safely processing the batteries.
