Today, the VTB United League Board was held online in the TASS news agency press center.
It approved the holding of the SuperCup with the participation of the four best teams of the previous season.
The VTB United League SuperCup-2021 will be held before the start of the 2021/22 regular season- on September 18-19 — and will be held at the VTB Arena in Moscow. CSKA, UNICS, Zenit and Lokomotiv-Kuban will take part in it. The winner will be awarded the Alexander Gomelsky Cup, as a sign of memory to the legendary coach.
-Next season, we will host the VTB United League SuperCup for the first time, it will be held on September 18-19 at the VTB Arena, – CEO Ilona Korstin said at a press conference arter the Board of the League. This will be a truly sporting event, because the 4 best teams will participate in it according to the results of the last regular season — CSKA, UNICS, Zenit and Lokomotiv-Kuban. We already have a high-quality and iconic product — the All-Star Game, but it’s still a show. The SuperCup will be a sporting event.
Why did we choose these dates? Many teams hold pre-season tournaments, they just need such games for sparring. The trophy that we will present to the winner will be called the Gomelsky Cup. We all remember and appreciate the contribution that this great coach made to our Russian basketball.
We will hold a SuperCup draw. It will take place at the opening of the budgets of the VTB League clubs, which will be 7-10 days before the start of the SuperCup.
