The VTB United League hosted a coaches workshop in Moscow today with League coaches, general director Ilona Korstin, president Sergey Kushchenko, head of officiating Nikolaos Pitsilkas, review commission chair Algimantas Pavilonis and EuroLeague director of officiating Richard Stokes.
Changes to the FIBA rules, specifically unsportsmanlike fouls and travel calls, were discussed at the workshop. In addition, special attention was paid to the criteria for contact fouls. Coaches were active participants in the discussion, offering opinions and providing examples. The League also shared the primary takeaways from yesterday’s refereeing workshop.
League general director Ilona Korstin:
– We met with League coaches today. FIBA made several changes to the rules, which will take effect on October 1. We needed to share that information with the coaches and explain each change in detail. VTB United League referees and coaches should have the same interpretation of the rules and be informed of any new innovations. I hope these types of workshops will help improve communication between coaches, referees and League management, as well as establish common ground.
