Game progress
It took the guests only 4 seconds to open the score in the game – Aleksandr Gudumak completed quick offencive possesion. But the starting segment of the game was still dictated by the Estonian team. The hosts ran well, attacked with an excellent percentage and dominated on both boards – 13:7. The Krasnoyarsk squad were able to seize the score with the bench players. They literally dried up the opponent’s offence. After an over-productive debut, the Estonians scored only 4 points in the next six minutes. Excellent defense and accurate shots of American players eventually helped Enisey to win the first quarter – 20:17.
But in the second 10 minutes, the teams focused on the offence. There was no obvious leader in the game on the opposite courses. Former Enisey guard Davion Berry shone for the hosts, scoring 10 points in the quarter. Casper Ware was unstoppable for the guests with 12 points. As a result, during the quarter, the rivals scored 57 points for two. At the same time, Enisey were a little more successful again. However, the 6 points advantage before the second half – 50:44 – was overshadowed for them by the head coach loss. At the end of the second half of the game, Drazen Anzulovic got a second technical and had to go to the locker room.
The third 10-minute started with a long-range shot by Brynton Lemar. And it immediately showed the mood of the guests. The Krasnoyarsk team joined the defense again, while they did not lose the usual pace of scoring points. Quick possesions in the first seconds were replaced by three-point shots. At the end of the quarter, Enisey’s lead reached the critical mark at +15 – 74:59.
The key moment
In the final quarter, the guests confidently controlled the course of the game. Two and a half minutes before the final buzzer, the guests’ advantage was 16 points – 85:69. But there was still some intrigue here. Three-pointers by Silas Melson and Martin Dorbeck gave Kalev a 10-point run – 79:85. The last Estonians possesions in the game resembled a real assault. The hosts took the rebound on opponent’s board three times, shot four times, but scored their next points only from the free-throw line 3 seconds before the end, when the outcome of the game was already decided – 81:87.
Hero
Casper Ware was the real engine of the Enisey offence. The point guard boldly and confidently shot from the mid-range. As a result, the American finished this game as the most resultative player of the game – 20 points (shots from the field – 7 out of 12).
Numbers
51 – with such a percentage, Enisey shot in this game.
Comments
Roberts Stelmachers, Kalev Head Coach:
– It was a very aggressive game, we left a lot of emotions on the court. Everyone tried, but you know that we played against a good team. They looked physically stronger and we couldn’t resist their toughness. We have to play fast and we need to play better 1-on-1 defense.
Drazen Anzulovic, Enisey Head Coach:
– We controlled most of the game. In the end, we created problems for ourselves by giving our opponents a lot of open three-point shots. But otherwise we played with great energy and are happy with the result. I am more satisfied with the defense, especially in the second half of the meeting.
