The VTB United League President Sergey Kushchenko summarized the results of the League Board Meeting after the re-election:
– I would like to thank the Board for the trust. There is another period of hard work ahead. I hope we will succeed and not let down. For the past few seasons, the League has been in manual mode: COVID or another obstacles. We are adapting quickly.
We had proposals to reduce the Semifinal Series to 3 wins, but we believe that this is the most beautiful and demanded product for the TV, so the League was against this proposal – the Semifinals will remain to 4 wins.
Another important change was made at the request of our foreign team – Astana. The club asked to include 3 Russian players in the quota of 6 national players in the roster. This will allow Astana to be more competitive in the next VTB League season. We agreed: now 3 spots in the quota of national players in Astana can be given to Russian players – provided they are not in the expanded Russian national team. This is another option for the development of young Russian players.
The SuperCup will definitely be in Moscow in September . There are pre-agreements on the strong foreign teams participation in the SuperCup, but we can’t disclose them yet, as many European championships still have their final series.
