The VTB United League is excited to present a new Belov Cup design. Also, beginning this season, the trophy will remain with each championship team.
– We believe the championship team should have a memory of their VTB United League championship, – noted League president Sergey Kushchenko. – This trophy always comes at a high cost and every title possesses significant intrinsic value. That’s why we’re going to create a new trophy every season, so it can be displayed in the winning team’s trophy case.
The VTB League Cup bears the name of Sergei Alexandrovich Belov. But the old design had no connection to him. Now it does. The new cup evokes the torch, which legendary Soviet and Russian basketball player Sergei Belov once carried at the Olympics opening ceremony to represent his great nation. There’s tradition and purpose in the design. In addition, the Cup now bears the likeness of the great player and his famous shot. We worked all season on adding new exciting, attractive features to the League: We’re creating interesting content, drawing in pop stars and making news. That’s what we did with the All-Star Game and I hope our coming rebranding will have the same impact. The new Belov Cup is one more step in that direction.
The redesigned Belov Cup will be on display at the scorer’s table during each of the playoff final games.
