VTB United League organised seminars for referees, coaches and captains of participating teams

VTB United League organised a series of seminars for referees, commissioners, coaches and captains of participating team.

Davorin Nakic, FIBA Referee manager Europe and BCL Referee Manager, and Richard Stokes, Senior Director Officiating Euroleague, were invited as special guests at the seminar in Moscow. The VTB League was represented by the League CEO Ilona Korstin, the Head of the Refereeing Department Nikos Pitsilkas and the League Sports Director Alexey Chudin.

During the seminars discussed current trends in the basketball game refereeing according to FIBA rules. The speakers paid special attention to the defence against the player who is in the air and the screens setting. The League’s position on the consistent referees reaction to the players’ and coaches’ emotional behavior during the game were also discussed.

Ilona Korstin, the League CEO:

— VTB United League annually pays a lot of attention to the referees and comissioners training before the season. This time we organised a seminar with the participation of Davorin Nakic from FIBA and Richard Stokes from the Euroleague, where we talked about the latest trends in basketball rules and changes in interpretations. Our teams and referees also took part in FIBA and Euroleague tournaments, so I am very happy and grateful that two organizations representatives work together at our events.

We have also established good contact with the VTB League teams head coaches, for which we are particularly grateful to the head of the VTB League Refereeing Department, Nikos Pisilkas. The League is always open to dialogue and is ready to provide explanation on any game episode or controversial situation.

In addition, we are holding an online meeting with team captains for the second year in a row. This is an interesting experience, because each of them has the opportunity to express their opinion and ask questions to both the League management and specialists working with referees — the same game participants as the players are.
