VTB United League has completed a large-scale historical project: «To the 100th Anniversary of the National Basketball Championships».
The League introduced a book honoring 100 years of national basketball championships at the SuperCup. The unique edition was published in 2 volumes: the 1st – men’s championships, the 2nd – women’s (at the moment the work on the volume continues).
A huge amount of work has been done in archives, libraries and with veterans in order to tell and show in photos all 59 Soviet basketball championships.

– We present the League’s large-scale project – the first volume of the book History of the Russian Basketball Championships, Men’s Teams. The uniqueness of this book is that there was very little publicly available information on this period and the League, together with historians, archivists and journalists, restored and systematized a large amount of data for 100 years of Soviet basketball.
There are the results of absolutely all games, all champions and records of those years. But this is not just a reference book – the book is written in a publicistic style in simple and accessible language. The stories were shared by famous veterans, legends of our basketball.
The goal of the project is to popularize the history of Soviet club men’s basketball.
We managed to recreate the entire history of Soviet basketball thanks to a talented team of historians, archivists and journalists who love and know their business. Special thanks to Roman Fridman – historian and archivist, who was responsible for the preparation of the tables. And of course to the main inspirer of the project Sergey Ivanov.
