Turning Point I
Coming off a crushing defeat to Barcelona in the Euroleague, UNICS didn’t waste time asserting control. The home team went on an 11-0 run early in the 1st quarter, capped by a pair of Parakhouski dunks, to grab an 18-5 lead.

Stat
73% – while less than impressive from downtown (7-23), Kazan sparkled inside the 3-point line, converting 24 of 33 attempts.

Turning Point II
Parma cut the deficit to nine midway through the 3rd quarter, thanks to seven points from Bulanov. But an 8-0 run from Langford and Clarke erased the visitors’ momentum, and put UNICS back in the driver’s seat for good.

Quotes
UNICS head coach Evgeny Pashutin:
– Today was difficult psychologically after the loss to Barcelona. We needed to forget that game. Overall, we didn’t have trouble with motivation. We defended well and moved the ball. Yes, in the final quarter we were a little reckless with a big lead. That’s a mental thing. We didn’t emphasize offense much. Our main goal was to neutralize Parma’s leaders, try to press, disrupt their offense, and battle for rebounds, which we managed to do.

Parma head coach Viacheslav Shushakov:
– It wasn’t that long ago that we were watching UNICS – Barcelona. That may have had an effect. But people everywhere are the same, which is what I told my guys. We came out stressed, lacking confidence and drive today. We only started to find our stride at the end with active defense and confident shooting, which we were missing at the start.
