On 3 October 2013, the great basketball player and coach Sergey Belov passed away.
Belov made a huge contribution to the development of Russian basketball. Now the trophy awarded to the VTB United League winners is named after him.
Belov is an Olympic champion (1972), 2-time winner of the European Champions Cup (1969, 1971), 11-time champion of the USSR (1969-74, 1976-1980) and multiple medallist and winner of international tournaments.
