Izhevsk hosted the 4th annual camp for potential officials as part of the traditional All-Russian tournament among men’s teams for prizes from Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol JSC.
The mentors were the League’s leading referees, Aleksey Davydov and Stanislav Valeev. The program included both theoretical classes and practical work at tournament games.
Particular attention was paid to:
– preparing officials before the game;
– the correct application of refereeing mechanics and individual refereeing techniques (IOT);
– criteria for fouls and violations;
– issues of psychological condition of officials (for the first time in the camp program).
6 camp participants (Aleksandr Kerzon, Aleksandr Malinin, Andrey Lugovoy, Vasily Khrynin, Sergey Revenko, and Danil Shebarshin) had the opportunity not only to apply their knowledge in officiating, but also to analyze each game together with instructors, receiving individual recommendations.
In addition to the annual camp, the VTB United League plans to hold a meeting of officials and commissioners, as well as online meetings with head coaches and club captains.
Aleksey Chudin, VTB United League Sports Director
— We attach great importance to the development of the refereeing corps in the VTB United League, which is why annual camps for young referees have become a good tradition for us. Refereeing in modern basketball requires not only a deep knowledge of the rules and the ability to apply the mechanics correctly, but also serious psychological preparation. It is important that referees are prepared for the high speeds of the game, for pressure from players, coaches, and the stands, and are able to make decisions clearly and confidently.
This camp in Izhevsk was an important step in training a new generation of referees. We are pleased that the participants had the opportunity not only to study the theoretical basis, but also to apply it in practice in real games, and then receive personal recommendations from experienced mentors. I am confident that these young officials will be able to prove themselves in the coming years and become part of the VTB United League family.
