Story
The start was tough for both teams. The Army club woke up earlier with less errors and domination in front court. As a result, with less tunovers (7 vs 3) and work in the paint (7 offesnive rebounds vs 1), Moscow got 10 additional possessions. This helped them create a comfortable lead 24:12 in the first quarter.
The second quarter started with snipers’ faceoff where the Red-Blues were stronger again. Three-pointers by Dustin Hogue and Mikhail Kulagin were matched by 5 shots made by Ivan Ukhov, Janis Strelnieks and Tornike Shengelia – 42:24. The Army club didn’t allow the Siberians to turn tables with 21-point lead after the first half (55:34).
There was not much intrigue after that. Rebounds (39 – 20), confidence in opponents’ three-second zone, great defense and sniper work of Ivan Ukhov with 18 points and 6 of 7 distance shots made the result. CSKA controlled the second half, renewed club’s scoring high (109 points) and won the game.
Hero
Ivan Ukhov demonstrated his best performance for CSKA. This time, the guard reset career highs in red and blue (18 points, 6 three-pointers and 26 efficiency points).
Stat
109 points by CSKA which is team’s best this season. Overall best this season is 114 by Loko against Zielona Gora.
Comment
CSKA head coach Dimitris Itoudis:
“Congrats to the team, we were serious. We know that Enisey had troubles with ill players. For us, it’s also important to bring back to fitness Janis, Nikola, Semen and Andrey afvter COVID-19, plus recover Joel. This process takes time. Tonight, we didn’t leave questions on the outcome, were focused from the beginning to the very end.”
Enisey acting head coach Pavel Dergachev:
“Yes, we lost by 50 points, but we’re not making such a song and dance about it. We have to get the right output and move on. It’s hard to fight the opponents who make 67 shots while you make only 42, when you allow 15 offensive rebounds and commit 21 turnover. It looks a bit like a game against UNICS. You don’t allow second chance points to teams like that. By the halftime break we’d allowed 10 offensive rebounds which was a psychological pressure. We have games against PARMA and Astana, time to get ready.”
