VTB United League President Sergey Kushchenko commented on the participation of Serbian teams Partizan and Mega in the Super Cup:
– The first talks about the participation of Serbian clubs in the League’s Super Cup were back in the Euroleague Final Four in Belgrade. We talked for a long time and after we received preliminary approval to continue negotiations and then we met with specific Serbian clubs.
With the long-standing relations between Russian and Serbia basketball teams and respect for Serbian basketball – historically one of the strongest in Europe – as well as the fact that many famous Serbian players and coaches played in the VTB League, all this made it possible to agree on Partizan and Mega participation in the Super Cup. Huge thanks to the leaders of these teams for their help in organizing and willingness to come.
The participation of Serbian teams in the upcoming Super Cup is of great importance for the international agenda of our teams, which the League is trying to support now.
Look, many League teams are holding pre-season training camps in Turkey now, playing with top European teams including the Euroleague champion Anadolu Efes. I think our communication in sports with other countries continues. And the Super Cup is a logical continuation of this international story.
The Super Cup will be from September 22 to 25 at VTB Arena and will be organized by the League and Moscow Sports Department. The 6 teams – CSKA, UNICS, Zenit, Lokomotiv Kuban, Partizan and Mega – will be divided into 2 groups. The group stage games will be on September 22, 23 and 24. The decisive day, which includes the 5th place game, the 3rd place game and the final will be on September 25.
