Nikolaos Pitsilkas has been named head of the VTB United League officiating department. Pitsilkas is one of Europe’s most respected referees with 19 years experience at the highest level, in addition to serving as a FIBA commissioner and instructor.
In his role as head of officiating, Pitsilkas will oversee the work of all League referees, communicate with international basketball organizations and national federations on officiating questions and regularly serve as a game inspector.
– First of all, I want to thank the VTB United League for their confidence and invitation to such an important position, – said Nikolaos Pitsilkas. – I’ve been in the game for many, many years. I was a player, referee and instructor. During my refereeing career I gained enormous experience, which I hope will have a positive effect on my work in my position.

Nikolaos Pitsilkas was born in Larissa, Greece on February 6, 1958. He’s married with two sons.
1983-1990 – referee at the domestic level
1990-2009 – FIBA referee
2002-2009 – EuroLeague referee
As a referee, Pitsilkas has participated in 550 Greek league games, 500 FIBA/EuroLeague games, 2000 and 2008 Olympic Games, 2002 World Championships, five European Championships and four EuroLeague Final Fours.
Since 2012, Pitsilkas has served as a FIBA commissioner and instructor.
