The Belov League Championship was held today in the Dynamo Sports Palace at Krylatskoe. The Belov League serves as the ASB League playoff.
Among the honored guests were VTB United League executives, including honorary president Sergei Ivanov, president Sergey Kushchenko and general director Ilona Korstin.
The men’s and women’s teams from the Moscow State Academy of Physical Culture (MSAPC) at Malakhovka won the title.
The MSAPC women’s team secured a narrow victory over St. Petersburg’s Chernye Medvedy-Politekh, 78-77 to win the ASB championship for the first time. MSAPC will represent Russia at the European student championships in Hungary.
The MSAPC men’s team defeated the St. Petersburg University of Industrial Technology and Design, 62-59, for its 4th title.
Following the championship game, the ASB League revealed the all-tournament team with VTB United League executives taking part in the award ceremony.
In addition, the tournament MVP’s–Anastasia Mamedova (MSAPC, Malakhovka) and Andrei Sopin (MSAPC, Malakhovka)–received an all-expenses paid trip to the upcoming EuroLeague Final Four in Istanbul from the VTB United League.
– The ASB League is already 10 years old, – noted League president Sergey Kushchenko. – It’s a child that’s already active, smart for its age and knows how to use technology. The League is developing and the quality of play is constantly improving. Today’s championship was held in a wonderful environment and one can only wish them continued success. The ASB League is a truly wonderful, successful basketball project.
