Since the 2017 playoffs, the VTB United League has actively promoted recycling plastic bottles at basketball games throughout Russia.
Fans have shown enthusiastic support, collecting more than 350 kg of plastic for recycling. The БАСКЕТБОТЛ campaign also made appearances at the Association of Student Basketball final, Walk Together charity games and the Russia vs. Serbia friendly at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.
Many dignitaries and celebrities have joined the БАСКЕТБОТЛ campaign: President of the Russian Federation’s special envoy for nature conservation, environment and transportation and VTB United League honorary president, Sergei Ivanov; Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Arkady Dvorkovich; actor Gosha Kutsenko; VTB United League president Sergey Kushchenko; League general director Ilona Korstin; RBF president Andrei Kirilenko and many VTB United League coaches and players.
БАСКЕТБОТЛ will continue to grow this season, joining the Sort Right national campaign. Sort Right is focused on cultivating a responsible approach to household waste and supports various recycling initiatives as well as the use of recycled materials.
The League has set an ambitious goal of working with clubs to introduce recycling in all arenas. This season, athletes and fans will be able to help out the environment and keep our planet clean.
БАСКЕТБОТЛ makes recycling fun. During a game, you never know which shot could ultimately decide the outcome. Recycling is the same. Every plastic bottle needs to go in the right bin. The only spot for a plastic bottle is in the plastic recycling bin.
You can play БАСКЕТБОТЛ anywhere, anytime you have an empty plastic bottle. Simply find the nearest recycling container and knock down your shot. You can also upload videos to social media with the hashtag #БАСКЕТБОТЛ to compete in our online contest and win prizes!
Plastic battles sent for recycling can be used to make sports uniforms, construction materials, toys, even basketballs!
БАСКЕТБОТЛ is partnering with EcoTechnologies, an affiliate of ProPartners, an international company working on recycling initiatives in Russia since 2005.
