VTB United League Estonian team-participant decided to end the season because of coronavirus spread threat.
To date, emergency has been declared in Estonia, all sport and mass events were canceled. Furthermore, Latvian-Estonian League’s season, where Kalev play, ended ahead of schedule as well. According to Estonian government the nearest possible date of mass event resumption is May 1st.
In the regular VTB United League season Kalev held 5th spot with 8-12 record.
VTB United League CEO Ilona Korstin:
– This is sad news for all of us but we respect Kalev’s decision in current situation. In this difficult time we should support each other. Moreover, League plans to resume the season after April, 10th. The majority of our clubs continue to practice and keep in shape. We believe that we can continue playing basketball and get back to normal considering the situation in Russia and other countries.
