League general director Ilona Korstin discussed changes to the VTB United Youth League during the League’s press conference today at the Kremlin.
– Together with the Russian Basketball Federation, we’ve created a new format that will take effect next season. These changes will allow the Youth League to remain an official Russian championship, while clubs will be able to receive additional budget guarantees and players will be able to win awards. We’re reducing the age limit. Only players who are 19 or younger (at the beginning of the season) will be able to participate in the VTB United Youth League. Teams will be allowed to move down up to four players no older than 20. In addition, foreigners and players from the senior roster will not be allowed to play for the youth team. We think that our youth will be able to develop and grow thanks to these changes.
