League general director Ilona Korstin participated in the annual meeting of the FIBA Players’ Commission, held in Geneva. The commission represents the interests of players around the world and discusses current issues relating to various basketball competitions.
The commission consists of famous former players, each of whom represent their continent. Vlade Divac, two-time Olympic silver medalist with Yugoslavia and Sacramento Kings general manager, is chairman of the commission. Due to Divac’s absence this year, Ilona Korstin is in charge of the commission.
At this year’s meeting discussions included changes to the rules of basketball, new competition formats, educational programs for young players, women’s basketball, 3×3 basketball, World Championship qualifying and other basketball issues. All of the remarks and proposals made by the Players’ Commission will be discussed at the FIBA Executive Committee and then voted on as a body.
