Executives from Europe’s leading leagues and clubs met on Thursday in Barcelona to discuss the EuroCup and EuroLeague calendar and regulations for the 2017-2018 season.
The VTB United League was represented by general director Ilona Korstin and official League representative to the EuroLeague, FIBA and other international competitions Jiri Zidek.
The EuroLeague regular season, which will include two VTB United League clubs–CSKA and Khimki–tips off on October 12 and concludes on April 6, 2018. The upcoming season will once again feature a round-robin format without groups. The top eight teams in the regular season will advance to the playoff quarterfinals (best-of-five series) to be held from April 17 to May 1. The quarterfinal winners will compete for a championship at the Final Four in Belgrade from May 18-20.
The EuroCup regular season, featuring three VTB United League clubs–Zenit, Lokomotiv-Kuban and UNICS–will run from October 11 to December 27. The Top 16 is scheduled for January 3 to February 7. The quarterfinals begin on March 6, the semifinals on March 20 and the finals on April 10.
UNICS was drawn into Group A (Darussafaka Istanbul, Cedevita Zagreb, Fiat Turin, MoraBanc Andorra La Vella, Levallois Metropolitans), Lokomotiv-Kuban is in Group C (ALBA Berlin, Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius, RETAbet Bilbao Basket, Limoges CSP, Partizan NIS Belgrade) and Zenit joins Group D (Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas, Tofas Bursa, Dolomiti Energia Trento, ratiopharm Ulm, ASVEL Villeurbanne).
Barcelona also hosted the Business Summit this week, which featured leading European clubs, including CSKA, Khimki, Zenit, Lokomotiv-Kuban, UNICS as well as VTB United League representatives.
