UNICS announced the parting with Croatian striker Mario Hezonja, who became the VTB League MVP of the 2021/22 regular season and the All-Star Game 2022 MVP.
The VTB League General Manager Ilona Korstin pointed out that Hezonja managed to steal hearts of many fans with his game:
– Since our teams will not play in the Euroleague in the upcoming season, his departure is reasonable, despite the fact that Velimir Perasovic is really his coach, a specialist who was able to reveal Mario’s talent in all its glory, show all his strengths and hide his weaknesses. Hezonja will really be in the memory and hearts of many VTB League fans, he attracted many with his game and attitude. He is the player who gave 100% in all games.
I am glad that Mario played in the VTB League. We noted him in the All-Star Game, and he fully deserved the MVP of the season. I wish him luck in his new team. We will follow his game and hope that he will return to the VTB League one day.
Last season, Mario Hezonja played in 30 games in the VTB League and averaged 18.9 points and 7.2 rebounds. The Kazan team won the VTB League bronze medals at the end of the season.
