On Wednsday, January 1st, former NBA commissioner David Stern died aged 77. Two weeks ago he suffered brain hemorrhage.
Stern was NBA commissioner from1984 to 2014.
VTB United League President Sergey Kushchenko:
“David Stern was a manager with unique vision of how basketball should develop. He was looking in the future, decades forward… He saw the global scope. I was in CSKA when we worked together on NBA games in Moscow. It was a tough task which we completed several times, and I always felt his support. In 2006, when Clippers came to Moscow to play CSKA and Khimki, Stern himself flew to Moscow. And then he got stuck in a traffic jam on his way from the airport. Later he joked about it saying New York – Moscow trip was faster then Sheremetyevo to the city centre… But still he was in a great shape, had a press conference and positive feedback on the game.
Stern came to the NBA when it had a pack of problems, but his successors received the greatest sports company of the world.
Basketball and we all will mis him.”
