The Honorary President and founder of the VTB United League passed away on 26 June at the age of 73.
Basketball was an inseparable part of his remarkable journey – that of a strong leader, a sincere lover of sport and the inspiration behind every one of the League’s projects.
Sergei Borisovich made an enormous contribution to the development of Russian basketball, to the successes of the country’s national teams and to the rise of the VTB United League.
His energy, his eye for detail and his belief in the uniting power of the greatest game with a ball will forever remain part of the League’s history.
Condolences to Sergei Borisovich’s family and to the VTB United League were expressed by regional governors of the Russian Federation, the leadership of FIBA, sports federations and leagues, representatives of Russian and foreign clubs, the League’s sponsors and partners, and countless basketball fans.
