Game progress
Games in Perm rarely turn out to be an easy walk for CSKA. So this time, PARMA imposed an active battle to the leader from the first minutes. In the middle of the quarter, accurate three-pointers from the Lithuanian duo Adas Juskevicius – Eigirdas Zhukauskas even put the hosts ahead – 14:12. But immediately after that, Iffe Lundberg and Nikita Kurbanov initiated a powerful 13:2 run. This helped the guests finish the starting 10 minutes, owning a comfortable advantage – 25:16.

In the second quarter, the game pace and the shots percentage for both teams dropped sharply. PARMA managed to score its first points only after seven minutes of playing time. CSKA, however, responded with equally low performance: the Army team managed to keep the opponent at a comfortable distance, but failed to develop success. The two teams scored only 23 points in the second quarter, and the most notable action was the long-awaited debut of CSKA rookie Kenneth Faried. However, Manimal did not have time to score his first points.

After a long break, CSKA started from the spot – with shots from behind the arc performed by Iffe Lundberg and Johannes Voigtmann. The Army team defence acted as organized as in the second quarter, and PARMA’s gap began to grow rapidly. A mini-run named after Will Clyburn at the end of the third 10 minutes made the difference almost fatal for the hosts  — 56:37.

The key moment
Kazys Maksvytis’ squad made the last attempt to win back at the start of the fourth quarter. The duo of Zhukauskas – Juskevicius, supported by Artem Zabelin, gave a 9:1 run, returning hope to the fans for an intresting ending. But Voigtmann and Ivan Ukhov quickly cooled the Ural team players motivation. After a 3-pointer  by Daniel Hackett, CSKA’s advantage reached +20 for the first time, after which the end of the game turned into a formality. The Army team confidently brought the game to win — for the fourth in a row, but PARMA got its first defeat of the season.

Hero
Iffe Lundberg. He became the main attacking force of CSKA after Tornike Shengelia’s injury, was also the leader of the Army team offence in this game: he scored 16 points (the best result in the game) and actively participated in CSKA’s final run.

Numbers
14 steals by CSKA — the Army team defence in this game worked like clockwork. The 20 points scored by the red and blue after the opponents’ turnovers significantly affected the outcome of the game.

Comments

Kazys Maksvytis, PARMA-PARIMATCH Head Coach:

– I am dissatisfied with the quality of the game that we showed today. When you play like that against teams like CSKA, you get punished. Let’s be honest, today the Army team did not have the best game that they can demonstrate. Unfortunately, we didn’t take advantage of it. We didn’t have enough energy and desire to win.

Dimitris Itoudis, CSKA Head Coach:

– Congratulations to my team, we played a serious and good game today. In general, I am satisfied with the quality of the game, except for one segment in the second quarter, where we sagged on offense. This can also be explained by the fact that we are trying to implement Kenneth Faried into the game, he spent only one training session with us. He needed game practice, which he received today. We also showed excellent defense, allowing the opponent to score only 60 points.
