Last week, a camp for the VTB United League potential referees took place in Izhevsk as part of the traditional All-Russian annual basketball tournament among men’s teams.
For 6 days, the head of the League’s refereeing department Nikos Picilkas as well as the leading referees of the VTB League worked with potential referees on and off the court. The daily work plan included 2-hour lectures, after which a detailed analysis of the refereeing, correct and incorrect referees’ actions.
Every day the judges dealt with various issues of modern judging through lectures. The following topics were touched upon: the mechanics of triple refereeing, contact criteria, the use of the IRS system, the behavior of players and coaches, as well as the relationship of referees with each other.
In addition to the lecture material, each referee received an oral report of his refereeing immediately after the end of the game, as well as a video with episodes of correct actions and situations in which the referee made mistakes.
