UNICS’ last game was postponed due to a flu. Despite a long absence of game practice, the reigning champion was the favourite. MINSK lost both games at the start of the season.
Since the start, Velimir Perasovic team had problems in offense. The Minsk team took a lead with the aggressive play of Grigoriy Motovilov and Daniil Kasko. Early in the second quarter, 3-pointers by Nenad Dimitrijevic and Jalen Reynolds helped the Kazan team to make a 13-0 run. After that, MINSK offence fell apart, while UNICS felt a sense of excitement. After winning the second quarter with the score of 33:9 , UNICS went into the halftime with 22-point lead – 51-29.
There was no fight in the second half. Reynolds continued to dominate in the paint, while Marcos Knight and Dmitriy Kulagin consistently mid mid-range shots. Rostislav Vergun charges were never able to make a comeback, scoring just 20 points over the final two quarters.
Key factor
UNICS win was so convincing due to their dominance. The Kazan team bigmen made 17 offensive rebounds, 12 more than MINSK players. Perasovic team often made those rebounds into second-chance points, increasing the score difference.
Fact
The Kazan team won by 48 points, setting a new season high. The previous record belonged to Pari Nizhny Novgorod, who beat the Belarusian team by 29 points on 1 October.
UNICS also achieved the biggest road win in their history.
